Every year since 1992, April has been Stress Awareness Month in order to help promote awareness for a growing epidemic in our country--modern stress. If you haven’t taken the time to become familiar with and manage your own stress levels, there is no better time like the present. In honor of this month and cause, we’ve put together a list of some of the best ways to manage your daily stresses. Everyone is different, so try each of these to find out what works best for tackling your life stress.
Move, Move, Move!
We all know that exercise is one of the best ways to give stress the boot, but exercise doesn’t have to mean running on the treadmill every day. If running or going to the gym isn’t your cup of tea, find what is! Exercise should be fun, not a chore. Put on your favorite tunes and dance around. Or, take your favorite furry friend for a walk. If you’re not sure what type of exercise is your thing, start giving things a try. Head to a zumba class with a friend, or try doing laps in the local community pool. Once you find your niche, exercise won’t just be something to help with your stress, it will be something you crave.
Surround Yourself with the Right People
Having the right kinds of people in your life is essential to a healthy mindset and dealing with your life’s stress. Spend time with people that make you feel understood and at ease. Socializing with the right kinds of people will be calming and not to mention fun! These people will support you through the hard times, as a shoulder to lean on or a friendly ear to truly listen to you. The Beatles said it best: “I get by with a little help from my friends.”
